Syria Update: Latest Events
02 November 2013

Homs. Syria law enforcement has reported that several SUVs and trucks, transporting weapons and ammunition, have been arrested in the province of Homs. The drivers are in custody. Investigation is underway.

Damascus province. Syrian army has completed security operations in recently liberated Htaitit al-Turkman neighborhood near Damascus International Airport. It was mentioned that despite their desperate resistance in heavily fortified defense positions, Al-Nusra Front bandits had taken considerable losses and were ousted from that area. Highway traffic to Damascus International Airport has become increasingly secure, as another potential threat has been removed to that viable transit route.

The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement activists have helped evacuate more than 500 civilians from Muhadamia area in Damascus province, which is still under control of Al-Nusra Front militants. The evacuees did not wish to stay in the Islamist-controlled areas and sought refuge from killings in neighboring regions. Earlier, National Reconciliation Committee had assisted in repatriation of and provided humanitarian aid to more than 2000 people from that same area. Syrian authorities give all necessary support and assistance in providing shelter and food supplies to the refugees.

Idlib. Syrian army continued to play major role in providing security in the recently freed areas of Idlib province – including its most important facilities and townships – making sure that peace and stability are fully enjoyed by the Syrian people there. In order to prevent any sudden attack by Al-Nusra Front terrorists, Syrian army leadership decided to take under its full control Arbe’in Mountain, overseeing that area, and all nearby territories. A small SAA unit is currently stationed on the mountain top.
